Join your fellow colleagues in footwear for an evening of networking and discussion with footwear designers and entrepreneurs Dr. Taryn Rose and Jannie Denney. Taryn and Jannie both have unique backgrounds in the footwear industry, having had to adapt and change in order to accommodate family needs and their own business aspirations.  Join us as we discuss topics related to entrepreneurship, design, work-life balance and how to stay relevant in the changing footwear marketplace.
About Jannie Denney:
Jannie Denney is an artist. Her artistry has enabled her to design for some of the biggest junior brands in America and also create her own brand Eco-Friendly brand TIGERBEAR REPUBLIK, a brand whose goal was to be a catalyst for change in fashion & footwear, change for all of us to be more ‘eco-conscious’. Her madcap art and footwear design is inspired both by pop culture, fashion, the madness of everyday life as a mixed American artist and mother striving to make a difference.
Jannie Denney is an American artist, designer and entrepreneur who has created designs that both delight and celebrate the ‘melting pot” of her experiences & culture. Her latest design work is as an athletic design director of California footwear brand, Blowfish, Malibu.
Growing up in Saudi Arabia, her passion for art and irreverent sense of fashion were born and sculpted there. She has claimed called her work begins with her outsiders’ vision of California from Mexican/Thai/Arabic eyes. Ear marks of her trademark touch of “young, unique, funky & quirky” design elements can be seen in brands that she has been design director for such as: Rocket Dog, Rock & Candy, and Tigerbear Republik.
Tigerbear Republik was a brand that had the mission to: F.I.G.H.T: Feed, Inspire, Give, Help & Teach. The brand set out on a mission to make a change for good.  The brand was eco-conscious by using: biodegradable outsoles & insoles, recycled metal ornaments, digital printing, water based glues. Using profits from the brand, they carried out the mission to F.I.G.H.T.- starting in their backyard of Los Angeles and Dong Guan, China.
About Dr. Taryn Rose
Dr. Taryn Rose created one of today’s most successful and highly coveted brands in footwear. An orthopedic surgeon turned shoe designer, Dr. Rose married fashion and function in 1998 and changed the footwear industry forever. Her idea of being dressed with a sense of well-being touched a nerve with women from coast-to-coast, creating a dedicated following for her footwear collections. A formally trained surgeon, Dr. Rose witnessed the serious foot problems caused by fashion footwear.
A high heel lover herself, Dr. Rose saw a need to combine her knowledge of foot biomechanics and passion for fashion to spread ease to women everywhere. What started in a garage grew to a 40 million dollar business with boutiques all over the country.
Rose has been featured on a variety of television programs, newspapers and magazines including Oprah, CNN, Today Show, New York Times, People magazine, Entrepreneur, In Style, Elle, Lucky, O magazine, British Vogue, Town & Country and countless more.
After a decade of building her company Dr. Rose sold her company in 2008 and rested. She took some time off to enjoy her family, travel the world and attend speaking engagements and entertain new ideas for her next phase of business. She became passionate about technology and unleashed her inner geek. Energized and inspired Dr. Rose is currently working on the Black Rose Network, a game changing technology company delivering an entirely new e-commerce experience. “I see the future of fashion as where fashion and technology intersects” says Dr. Rose.
When not a lady who launches, Dr. Rose attends a variety of social & charity events in Los Angeles and New York. She continuously participates in a variety of speaking engagements around the country. She has served as a judge for the 2008 Miss Universe pageant in Nha Trang, Vietnam and most recently judged the 2011 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas. Dr. Rose is currently launching the Enrico Cuini brand with patented, revolutionary ALIA technology for high performance shoes.  She is also the Strategic Advisor and brand ambassador of Taryn Rose brand.
In addition to earning her medical degree from University of California School of Medicine in Los Angeles, Taryn Rose has been recognized for her numerous honors: In 2006 The Women’s Leadership Exchange group honored Taryn with the Compass Award for shifting the paradigm of how women are perceived as business leaders. Women’s President’s Organization and Fast Company ranked her first in a new entrepreneurial competition of distinction, “25 Women Entrepreneurs Who Are Changing the Game” (2005).  New York Moves magazine recognized her as one of the most powerful women in New York City (2005); she was highlighted as a distinguished role model and entrepreneur in the city of Los Angeles during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (2003); recognized by the Women’s Venture Fund as an outstanding entrepreneur during the Highest Leaf Awards in New York (2003), and by the Small Business Administration as one of four outstanding women entrepreneurs honored during the 50th Anniversary of the SBA in Washington DC (2003). The Women’s Entrepreneurial Conference featuring Martha Stewart selected her for their distinguished panel of female entrepreneurs (2007) and she’s continuously a featured panelist for events such as Pink Magazine’s “Fall Empowerment Series” (2009) and Women Entrepreneurs “Rock The World” conference (2010).
Dr. Rose and her shoes were featured in the Smithsonian museum in 2007 and she was invited to meet First Lady Laura Bush at the White House since Mrs. Bush is a fan of her work. Close to her heart, Rose regularly participates in projects to support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Clothes Off Our Back, Lynne Cohen Foundation and Step Up Women’s Network.
