Alex Arrambide’s first job was as a stock boy at Foot Locker. It was there that he developed his passion for sneakers and made up his mind to pursue a career in footwear. College was the next step, but paying for it was the immediate challenge. But thanks to the the friends and family of footwear veteran Harry Home, Alex’s future is looking bright.
Considered a great mentor by his employees, Harry’s legacy of developing leaders lives on through a new scholarship established in his name. Funded by his friends and family in 2014, the Harry Home Memorial Scholarship was created to ensure that the future leaders of the footwear industry would have help paying for their college education.
“I’m extremely honored to be the first recipient of the Harry Home scholarship,” said Alex, a resident of Portland, OR. “I will take Mr. Home’s words, “take care of the ones” to heart, not only as a reference to exceptional customer care but as a measure of how we should treat everyone with love and respect.”
A memorial for Harry was held on October 23rd at Willamette National Cemetery in Happy Valley OR. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Two Ten Footwear Foundation. Gifts will go to the Harry Home Memorial Scholarship.
