Scholarship requirements for the three-week Footwear Design and Prototype study abroad program in Milan, Italy:
- Applicant must currently be working in product development or design, with a minimum of three years' experience
- Applicant must have experience with offshore production
Course Description:
The Footwear Design and Prototype course is a step-by-step, intensive program that covers footwear development in relation to fashion, quality, and cost; from initial design through factory assembly. The first week is dedicated to pattern making for the students' prototypes, while the second and third weeks take place in a factory/research center in Vigevano, where students assist in cutting, stitching and lasting their prototypes with factory experts. Students will learn to do spec sheets, consumption charts and assist in the final fit test of their samples.
Program dates are June 25 - July 13, 2012.
Scholarship includes:
Course tuition (valued at $6,000 USD) and materials. Scholarship recipient is responsible for travel, lodging and meals. The employer is responsible for allowing the employee three weeks of paid leave to attend the program.
